Wisdom tooth extraction and wisdom tooth removal is a commonly performed oral surgery procedure at Dundas East Dental.
Wisdom tooth removal is usually recommended for patients between the ages of 17 and 25. If a wisdom tooth is not removed, it may cause crowding, become infected or impacted.
Wisdom tooth pain may be caused by an impacted wisdom tooth, crowding, or a wisdom tooth that has grown in crooked. Wisdom tooth pain symptoms may include bad breath, trouble swallowing/chewing, stiffness in the jaw, trouble opening the mouth, tooth decay, gum disease, or crowding.
Decay and gum disease may also be wisdom tooth symptoms. Although these symptoms may go unnoticed, with a routine dental exam these symptoms may be identified.
To determine wisdom tooth extraction candidacy, one of our dentists will assess your oral health and identify any issues that may affect the procedures success.
Wisdom tooth extraction is performed under general anesthesia. For patients who experience dental anxiety, we also offer sedation dentistry.
Upon completion of your oral surgery, prescription pain medication and antibiotics will be administered. A wisdom tooth removal aftercare kit will be provided, and we will fully explain all post-operative instructions. To remove the sutures, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled with Dr. Ali Al-Rubayee within the following week.
Between 1-4 days is the common wisdom tooth extraction recovery time, although this varies between patients. An ice pack and salt-water rinses may be used to help reduce swelling and discomfort. Eating softer foods (pudding, soup, gelatin, etc) is recommended following your wisdom tooth extraction procedure.
Smoking cigarettes within 24 hours of your procedure may cause wisdom tooth removal complications. Smoking may contaminate the surgical site, delay the healing process, and decrease the blood supply. Wisdom tooth extraction complications may also be caused by drinking through a straw, which loosens the blood clot.
The number of teeth being treated and the complexity of each case will determine wisdom tooth removal price. To schedule an appointment with one of our wisdom tooth removal dentists, call ((416) 368-8787.
